PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Chief Rodolfo Azurin Jr. issued on Monday, November 14, 2022, a stern warning to police personnel against solicitation ahead of the Christmas holidays.

“No solicitation is allowed especially kung ‘yung nagso-solicit ‘yung PNP sa iba’t-ibang mga agencies whether private or non-governmental organizations. Makisama tayo, ibig sabihin we celebrate Christmas with puwede naman tayo magsaya na hindi naman magastos ‘yung ating pagce-celebrate ng Christmas,” he said in a press conference in Camp Crame.

Azurin said police personnel are also prohibited from accepting any forms of “token of gratitude.”

He also urged the public to avoid giving gifts in any form to police as a sign of their appreciation.

“Actually, lahat bawal sana. I remember yan ‘yung kay former chief PNP General (Panfilo) Lacson. Kapag may nagbibigay sa kanya, para hindi

mapahiya, piso puwede na ‘yung mga nagvo-volunteer. Siguro this time we refrain from giving gifts kasi baka masanay ‘yung kapulisan kaya inuna ‘yung kanilang bonus,” said Azurin.

“It’s part of the appreciation ng maayos na pagtatrabaho nila so let’s not cross more than our entitlement lalo na kung pipilitin mo, eh yun ang bawal na bawal. Ibig sabihin, may mga volunteer na ano diyan but let’s try to avoid asking or even receiving or even demanding,” he added.

Azurin said violators may face both criminal and administrative charges that may result in their dismissal from the service.

The year-end bonus (YEB) and cash gift of police personnel will be released on Tuesday, November 15.

The YEB is equivalent to one-month base pay while the cash gift is worth P5,000. (SunStar Philippines)
