ASIDE from the Commission on Elections (Comelec), the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) is also starting its preparations for the December 2022 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) despite pending proposals to postpone it.This as the PPCRV is soon set to begin its voter’s education campaign for the December 5 poll exercise.”Even if there is no clear mandate yet from Congress on whether the BSKE will proceed or be postponed, we can already start our voter’s education campaign,” said PPCRV Director for Voter Education Dr. Arwin Serrano in a radio interview. In particular, he said the church-based poll watchdog wants to underscore the importance of electing barangay and youth leaders.”We want to educate the people on the importance of the barangay, who can be elected, and how to elect leaders,” he said.”We also want to highlight the importance of the SK, its benefits to the youth sector, and the importance of electing SK officials,” added Serrano. On Thursday, the Comelec bared that they are already 80-percent prepared to conduct the village and youth polls. This is despite numerous proposals in Congress to postpone the December 5 elections to a later date. The PPCRV has previously expressed its opposition to such proposals, saying the BSKE should push through as scheduled.”The calls to postpone the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections seem to undermine the barangay’s important role and significance in the daily dissemination of basic services to the Filipino people,” said PPCRV in an earlier statement.
