PRESIDENT Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has declared February 24, 2023, as a special non-working holiday in commemoration of the 1986 Edsa People Power Revolution anniversary.

Under Proclamation 167, Marcos moved the celebration of one of the country’s historical events to February 24 from February 25 “to enable our countrymen to avail [themselves] of the benefits of a longer weekend pursuant to the principle of holiday economics.”

He noted that the historical significance of the Edsa People Power Revolution Anniversary should be maintained.

The Edsa People Power Revolution ended the 20-year ruling — more than half of which were under martial law — of Marcos’ father, late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. (SunStar Philippines)
