A LIBERIAN national was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for allegedly trying to sneak in P55 million worth of illegal drugs, the Philippine National Police (PNP) Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) said Tuesday, June 6, 2023.

PDEG Director Brigadier General Faro Antonio Olaguera identified the suspect as Philip C. Campbell, a mechanical engineer from Lagos, Nigeria, who arrived in the Philippines from Doha, Qatar on Monday evening, June 5.

Found in Campbell’s luggage after the conduct of x-ray screening were 8,138 grams of substance believed to be methamphetamine hydrochloride with an estimated street value of P55.3 million.

The illegal drugs were concealed in yellow powdery spices, said Olaguera.

The suspect will be charged with violation of Republic Act (RA) 9165, or the Comprehensive Drug Act, and RA 10863, also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA), and Republic Act 9165 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The successful operation is a joint effort of NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group where PDEG and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency were member agencies. (SunStar Philippines)
