THE son of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla pleaded not guilty to the charges filed against him in relation to the illegal drugs he received during a controlled delivery operation in October 2022.

Former Quezon City representative Jose Christopher “Kit” Belmonte, one of the legal counsel of Juanito Remulla III, said they entered a not-guilty plea during an online arraignment before the Las Piñas Regional Trial Court Branch 197 under judge Ricardo Moldez II on Friday, November 4.

October 11, anti-narcotics operatives arrested the younger Remulla after accepting a package containing more or less 937 grams of high-grade marijuana, commonly known as kush, with an estimated value of P1,311,800 during a controlled delivery operation in Las Piñas City.

Charges for violation of importation of dangerous drugs under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and violation of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act were filed against Remulla.

Penalties prescribed for the violation of the Dangerous Drugs Act are life imprisonment and a fine ranging from P500,000 to P10 million. (SunStar Philippines)
