SHOULD he pursue plans to run for president in the May 2022 elections, Senator Richard Gordon said he would choose a medical doctor as his runningmate.
In a virtual press conference on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, Gordon said he was in talks with a doctor who has public health experience. He declined to name his prospective runningmate.
Gordon said he will decide whether to seek the presidency by September or October.
Filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) for the May 2022 national and local elections will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. of October 1 to 8, 2021.
Gordon said he was also considering a return to the local government in Olongapo City, his hometown, or retire from politics.
“I don’t think I want to be vice president,” he said.
Gordon said having a doctor as vice president would ensure that his administration, if he wins, would be able to efficiently respond to coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.
“We have to get out of Covid and I will need somebody other than my Secretary of Health and other than the Congress to be sure that somebody is on the ball kung paano tayo lalabas sa pandemic,” Gordon said in a virtual press conference.
“Certainly somebody who can help, who will not be treated as a flower vase. Somebody that is relevant,” he added.
Gordon said he also met with Vice President Leni Robredo and discussed their possible partnership in the upcoming polls. (Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo / SunStar Philippines)
