THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Friday, March 3, 2023, said overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from quake-hit Turkey are set to receive financial assistance upon their return to the country.

In a social media post, DMW announced that P20,000 cash aid awaits those who will choose to return home from Turkey as a form of government assistance.

“OFWs who will be returning to the Philippines will receive P20,000 in financial aid,” said DMW.

Earlier in the week, 25 Filipinos were repatriated from Turkey on board Flight QR932.

Fifty more Filipinos are expected to return home from Turkey in the coming weeks.

The DMW said this was aside from the different forms of assistance already being provided to them in Turkey.

“Food packs, medicines and other basic necessities are provided to 97 Filipino families affected by the recent earthquake in Turkey and are currently staying in a temporary shelter,” DMW said.

On February 6, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit southeastern Turkey and northern Syria.

The massive tremor has claimed the lives of some 50,000 people in Turkey and Syria. (SunStar Philippines)
