THE worth of damage to infrastructure caused by the magnitude 7 earthquake in Abra last week has reached over P1 billion, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Wednesday, August 3, 2022.In its situational report, the NDRRMC said a total of P1,261,088,371.81 worth of infrastructure were damaged in Ilocos (Region 1), Cagayan (Region 2), Central Luzon (Region 3), Cordillera Administrative Region, and National Capital Region (NCR).These include government and private buildings, schools, hospitals and houses.The agency said 438 houses in Ilocos, Cagayan and Cordillera were destroyed following the tremor, while 28,350 were damaged.Over P22 million worth of irrigation infrastructure were also damaged, the NDRRMC said.A total of P22.7 million worth of damage to agriculture was also noted. This included damage to crop areas, machinery and equipment.As of August 3, 801 families or 2,794 individuals remained in evacuation centers in the affected region, especially in the Cordillera.A total of 109,009 families or 421,728 individuals were affected by the earthquake in 1,133 barangays.There were 10 individuals who succumbed to injuries following the tremor while 410 were injured.The NDRRMC said the government has distributed over P68 million worth of assistance, including food and non-food items, to the affected families.
