A TAGUIG court has granted the petition for bail of actor and host Ferdinand “Vhong” Navarro, who is facing rape charges filed by model Deniece Cornejo.

In an order dated December 5, 2022, Judge Loralie Cruz Dataman of the Taguig Regional Trial Court Branch 69 fixed Navarro’s bail for his provisional liberty to P1 million.

Lawyer Alma Mallonga, Navarro’s legal counsel, said they are already working on all the necessary requirements for his immediate release.

In September, Navarro surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) following the issuance of an arrest warrant against him over charges of acts of lasciviousness to which he posted bail worth P36,000.

He was later on detained following the issuance of another arrest warrant against him on the same day over rape charges.

On November 16, Navarro was transferred to a jail facility in Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.

The charges against Navarro stemmed from separate incidents in January 2014.

In July, the Court of Appeals (CA) reversed the 2018 and 2020 ruling of the Department of Justice (DOJ) that junked the rape cases filed by Cornejo against the actor in relation to an incident on January 17, 2014.

The CA also ordered the filing of acts of lasciviousness against Navarro over the January 22, 2014 incident where he allegedly tried to rape Cornejo inside her condo unit in Bonifacio Global City.

Navarro had earlier denied accusations against him. (SunStar Philippines)
