POLICE have arrested the sister of Commission on Higher Education (Ched) Chairperson Prospero de Vera over multiple murder charges.Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Rodolfo Azurin Jr. said Adora Faye de Vera was arrested in Quezon City on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, by virtue of an arrest warrant issued by the Iloilo City Regional Trial Court.Azurin said Adora is a member of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army, serving as a staff officer of the general command and secretary of the Central Front of Panay regional committee.Adora is facing charges for multiple murder and multiple frustrated murder with the use of explosives, as well as a separate criminal case for rebellion.In a statement, Prospero confirmed Adora’s links to the communist terrorist group, saying he has not seen nor spoken to her for more than 25 years “since she decided to rejoin the underground movement.”“As a sibling, I hope and pray for her safety and good health in detention as she faces the cases filed against her,” said Prospero.Prospero expressed full support to the National Government’s efforts to end the communist insurgency, saying it has “ destroyed so many lives and property.”He said he does not share the same views nor support the actions of his sister.“I will let the law take its course in resolving the charges against her,” he said.
