THE Commission on Appointments (CA) has approved the appointment of Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco on Tuesday, September 27, 2022.In a hearing with the CA committee on tourism and economic development that recommended her appointment to the plenary, Frasco laid out her plans for the development of the country’s tourism sector badly affected by the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic. She said they are also looking into changing the country’s current tourism slogan—“It’s More Fun in the Philippines”— in consideration of what the country and the world went through during the pandemic. She said she had already discussed the matter with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.“[It] is the general notion that, perhaps, it is time to revisit the branding campaign of the Philippines, to study how it may evolve and reflect the best qualities of the Philippines and the Filipino people,” said Frasco.During the plenary session, Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri vouched for Frasco’s ability to lead the department and make the country’s tourism sector bountiful again.“She’s bringing to the department her stock knowledge as a mayor of the beautiful town of Liloan in the beautiful province of Cebu whose lifeblood is tourism,” he said.“The Department is in great hands,” he added.Frasco, the daughter of Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, was re-elected as mayor of Liloan before she was named by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as the tourism chief.
