What was supposed to be a short but sweet weekend pop-up has been extended up to January 28, 2023. And this is your chance to try the much talked about Bored and Hungry OG burgers at the Rockwell Powerplant Mall in Makati City, Philippines.
The burger pop-up is inside the upscale food hall called the Grid in Rockwell. This place is an elevated food hall that reminds me of Eataly in New York, Siam Paragon in Bangkok or even the Harrods food hall in London. Grid feels eloquently beautiful and happening.
Bored and Hungry is a fast food restaurant in California that created waves because of its use of NFTs or Non Fungible Tokens as its business image, logo. The owners have bought the images for a handsome sum of more than $300,000 and use these images as their signature logo now used on their packaging.
They use four of the characters from the Bored Ape Yacht Club collection as part of its corporate image. Originally, the idea was for the place to be just a pop-up store for 90 days, but given the success it has had, it has now become a permanent restaurant. In the California restaurant, there are two different types of burgers offered — one that is traditional, made from beef, and the vegan one made from vegetables.
Moreover, in the California restaurants, it is possible to pay with cryptocurrency like ApeCoin and Ethereum. BAYC or Bored Ape Yacht Club is a collection of 10,000 unique digital ape artworks. It’s currently one of the world’s most popular NFT collections, passing over $1 billion in total sales in January. This is the reason why you will be very familiar with these ape faces. You know that you have seen them somewhere.
Bored and Hungry made waves as it connected the digital world to the physical world so to speak. It bridged the NFT to a physical business using the digital NFT as its corporate logo. Now that they got your attention, they want you to come back for the Bored and Hungry’s smash burgers are the product Trill Burgers. At the Grid in Rockwell, the pop-up is really simple. They only serve the traditional beef burger and no vegetable burgers. The Bored OG burger comes with a toasted bun, two smash patties, cheese, their special sauce that tastes similar to a thousand island dressing, pickles, and diced grilled onions. They are selling the burger for P395. They also served the fries for P150. We got the combo as it came with drinks P595. The trill burger consists of two all-beef patties which is smashed until thin and crispy around the edges combined with slices of American cheese in between. Despite being almost lace thin, the patties are still juicy, filling and flavorful. Very simple, very delicious, and the stall is very, very busy.
So head out to the Rockwell Powerplant to try Bored and Hungry while it is here and let me know what you think of these OG burgers! Oh, and the pop up in Rockwell only accepts fiat currency, for now.
