THE number of reported fatalities due to the onslaught of Tropical Depression Agaton has increased to 172, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Sunday, April 17, 2022.Of the 172 reported deaths, 156 were from Eastern Visayas, 11 from Western Visayas, three from Davao Region and two from Central Visayas.The NDRRMC said a total of 110 people were also reported missing while eight were injured.Of the reported fatalities and missing individuals, 12 and six, respectively, were confirmed.The disaster bureau said the other reported casualties are still under verification.Of the missing persons, 104 were from Eastern Visayas, five from Western Visayas and one from Davao Region.The NDRRMC said a total of 583,994 families of 2,015,643 individuals were affected by Agaton in Bicol, Western, Eastern and Central Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen, Caraga and Bangsamoro regions.It said over 170,000 families or nearly 400,000 individuals were displaced due to the effects of the first weather disturbance that struck the country this year.More than 300 road sections and bridges have been reported obstructed due to flooding, landslides and fallen trees, electrical posts and other debris during the onslaught of Agaton.The NDRRMC said 9,723 houses were partially damaged while 670 others were totally wrecked due to Agaton.Over P249 million worth of agriculture products in Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Soccsksargen and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Barrmm), and P6.95 million worth of infrastructure in Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Northern Mindanao and Barmm were also damaged by the weather disturbance, the NDRRMC said.It said a total of P50,402,495.18 worth of food and non-food items have been provided to the affected population.
