A TOTAL of 371 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were released on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, from detention facilities under the Bureau of Corrections (Bucor).Of the 371, 31 were released after being acquitted from their respective cases, 240 attained their maximum sentence, 98 were granted parole and two were from probation.The Bucor said 191 PDLS were released from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP), 37 from the Correctional Institution for Women and 143 from various penal farms across the country.Out of the 371, 45 were senior citizens.The released PDLs were given certificates of discharge, antigen and grooming kits, and gratuity and transportation allowance.Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla who graced the ceremonial release of the PDLs together with Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) chief Persida Acosta said more PDLs will be freed in the coming months.He said PAO is in charge of coordinating with the Bucor and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in identifying prisoners who can already be released in a bid to decongest the country’s jail facility.“Ang isa pang pinag-aaralan namin siyempre ‘yong piyansa na maging available sa lahat kasi maraming hindi nakakapagpiyansa na kung puwede ay nasa labas na sana at nakakapag-deal sa kaso nila from the confines of their loved ones,” Remulla said.Remulla said 360 more PDLs were also on the list for executive clemency.
