Toronto, Ontario, December 12, 2024 – IKO, a global leader in roofing, waterproofing, and insulation for residential and commercial applications, announced its membership in the Canada Green Building Council (CAGBC). This reflects IKO’s commitment to advancing sustainability initiatives as it plans for 2025 and beyond.

The company’s appointment of Darren Rafter as Director of Sustainability earlier this year further solidified its dedication to impactful sustainability programs. Through CAGBC, IKO will collaborate with a national network promoting green building practices and carbon emission reduction, adhering to industry best practices.

“Joining the Canada Green Building Council is a natural progression in our sustainability journey,” stated Rafter. “This partnership will enhance our engagement with the green building community and unlock new opportunities for innovation while contributing to a sustainable industry future.”

As a CAGBC corporate member, IKO gains access to valuable resources, including green building training, advocacy efforts, and CAGBC market research. IKO’s ongoing sustainability efforts include significant progress on key plant projects, notably the commissioning of its Recycled Asphalt Shingle (RAS) Line at the Hawkesbury plant and multiple partnerships with asphalt shingle recyclers, enabling the diversion of manufacturing waste from landfills across North America. The company also recently completed its third rooftop solar installation at its Hagerstown, Maryland facility in September.

Looking ahead to 2025, IKO aims to expand its sustainability projects, focusing on waste reduction and energy efficiency improvements. The company will also continue fostering strong relationships with industry leaders and stakeholders through its CAGBC involvement.
