Elon Musk, the CEO of X, has announced that he is moving all of his companies, including Tesla, SpaceX, and X, from California and Delaware to Texas.
In a series of posts on X, Musk stated that SpaceX will be relocating its headquarters from Hawthorne, California to Starbase, Texas. A company town is also being constructed in the southern part of the state. He also revealed that the headquarters of X will be moving from San Francisco to Austin, Texas.
Musk cited a recently passed California law that restricts school districts from disclosing a student’s gender identity to parents as the reason behind the move. He claimed that this law, along with other previous legislation, attacks families and businesses, prompting SpaceX’s relocation. In 2022, Musk faced criticism when one of his children filed a petition in California court to sever ties with him due to his lack of recognition and acceptance of their new gender identity.
Musk further mentioned that he was weary of the frequent violent incidents occurring near the X office in San Francisco. This is not the first time Musk has expressed a desire to move his operations. In the past, SpaceX had filed a report seeking to relocate its corporate headquarters from Delaware to Texas after a Delaware state judge rejected Tesla’s executive pay package in 2018. In 2021, Tesla announced plans to move its headquarters to Austin, Texas from the Bay Area, following Musk’s personal relocation to Texas in December 2020.
