REGINA, SK, Nov. 27, 2025 – This week, the Honourable Heath MacDonald, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, conducted productive discussions with producers, industry collaborators, and provincial agriculture and agri-food stakeholders during his visit to Saskatchewan.

During his time in the province, Minister MacDonald delivered remarks at the customary “Burning of the Brand” ceremony, which signified the commencement of the Canadian Western Agribition (CWA). Following the ceremony, the Minister met with Saskatchewan’s Minister of Agriculture, Daryl Harrison, to deliberate on reducing trade obstacles, expanding international market access, and enhancing the sector’s resilience. Both Minister MacDonald and Minister Harrison committed to ongoing collaboration to bolster Saskatchewan’s agricultural sector, a vital industry for the province.

Minister MacDonald also toured significant agriculture-related facilities in the Regina area, specifically the Bunge inland grain terminal in Balgonie and the Co-op Ethanol Complex situated near Belle Plaine.

Additionally, Minister MacDonald spoke at the CWA Grain Expo, an event designed to bring together grain producers, industry experts, and sector leaders for collaboration and idea sharing. He reaffirmed his dedication to assisting producers in business expansion, while simultaneously broadening market access and solidifying Canada’s grain industry’s role as a leader in economic advancement and global food security.

While touring the exhibition, Minister MacDonald connected with numerous livestock exhibitors and organizations, including the Canadian Bison Association and the National Circle for Indigenous Agriculture and Food, to gain insight into the crucial efforts being made to integrate traditional knowledge with contemporary agricultural practices.

Minister MacDonald also convened roundtable discussions with various industry groups representing cattle producers, farmers, and crop commodity sectors. Attendees presented their perspectives on the opportunities and difficulties within their respective fields, including improving access to crucial trade markets, lowering trade barriers, strengthening risk management programs, funding research and innovation, and maintaining dialogue with producers to best assist them and their operations.
